Hi All,

Due to Wrong data type creation(Text) for certain field and it not allow use formula(Number/Decimal( in Business Rules.  Is that any method to convert the data type which already contain data entry/ create a dummy field copy the value over to allow use in formula in Business Rules.

Thank in advance.

Regards,

Micheal

You cannot change an entity/attribute metadata using business rule. You can only do manipulation with the data.

    Hi Michael,

You can't write a business rule for this, but you can fix the data type pretty easily as long as the field in question doesn't have any dependencies attached to it using "Attribute Manager" in XRM Toolbox. https://www.xrmtoolbox.com/

It has a built-in function to create a new temporary entity, copy the existing data to the temporary entity, create a new field with the correct data type and then migrate the data to the new field, all without code. Best of all, it actually corrects the wrong data type going forward, rather than working around it.

As always, be sure to test it out in a development/sandbox environment first. Good luck!

    Hi Micheal Wong,

If there are not a lot of dependencies on the field or data in the field then the best idea would be to recreate the field with the Whole Number field data type, and delete the old field. If this is not an option then I would strongly consider using code to solve the issue.
