How to correct a posted receiver

Is there a way to correct a receiver that has already been posted?  We had a person accidently receive an item against a PO as if we received the full amount of item ordered but in actuality we only received part of the order.  The receiver was posted before we realized the error.

We are not sure how to properly correct this mistake so that the PO and the Receiver both show the correct amount received and the correct outstanding amount.

Any ideas?

Thank you for your insight.

You'll have to create a Return Transaction, Emily, to reverse the effect of the receipt.  If you're on GP2010, then the open PO quantity will be corrected when you post the Return.  If on GP10 or previous, then you'll either need to add another line item to the PO to reflect the balance to be received or create a Receipt without PO to re-receive the items.  The advantage of the second option is your PO retains its original form.  The disadvantage is you don't have a solid audit trail between the receipt and the PO and will have to document the relationship between the two using Note fields.

    Hope this helps,
