Is Dynamics GP 2010 R2 compatible with SQL Server 2014

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

We're planning on updating GP 2010 R2 to GP 2015 R2.

Before we do that however, we want to migrate our GP 2010 R2 database (Currently on 2008 R2) to our new SQL Server 2014, with hopes of updating GP to 2015 R2 within 1 month from that time.

My Question is will Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 R2 be compatible with SQL server 2014 if migrating database?

Thanks,

Mark

Also here's a great post by Derek Albaugh @ Microsoft that goes into great depth as to which tables affect the upgrade and explains in the detail the DB_Upgrade, DU00020, and DU00030 tables.

    Well done Derek.

Jorge is correct, this will be a full upgrade, GP and SQL at the same time.

Now what you could do is set up and stage it so all you'll have to do is upgrade GP when you're ready. This way you can test the upgrade process to make sure you don't run into any "hiccups".

    - Install the new SQL environment

    - Install GP 2015 R2

    - Create new "blank" companies

    - Restore the 2010 company db's into the new environment

    - change the DB_upgrade and DU00020 tables to reflect the old versions

    - run Utilities to begin the upgrade

This can be a test bed for upgrading to make sure everything will go smoothly. After everything checks out with no issues all you have to do when you're ready is restore the live DB's into this environment, update the DB_upgrade and DU00020 tables again and then run utilities to upgrade.

Now this was a quick rundown on upgrading and is missing a few pieces such as the capture login script that you'll need since you would be moving to a new SQL instance and you'll need to carry over users but in general it should give you something to play with.

SQL 2014 is only supported from GP 2013 R2 and later versions.
