How to export the ER vendor payment file to a shared network folder?

Hi,

I see that we have the following ER destinations in the standard D365.

However, I would like to export the vendor payment file to a shared network folder. What are the best option?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi ShawnDEV,

The application programming interface (API) of the Electronic reporting (ER) framework lets you extend the list of storage locations for documents that ER formats generate.learn.microsoft.com/.../er-custom-storage-generated-documents

    Hi,

I should be more specific. I actually meant to save it to a 'on-premises network' which is within the organization that can be securely accessed by only the employees.

I think the document you shared is allowing to do so.

In other words, you want a web application in an Azure data center to connect to a machine in your local network and save some files there. Is that correct?

    You would have to:

    1. Either expose the file share to internet, which doesn't sound like a good idea.
    2. Or use something like the on-premises data gateway.
    3. Or abandon the idea and save the file an Azure storage instead. Then you can map the Azure storage as a network drive, for example.

    Hi,

If we want to use the on-premises data gateway, we will first have to transmit the payment file to Azure file share / sharepoint / Azure blob storage and then use the gate way as a bridge between Azure program and the on-premise network folder right?

I was just wondering if it is possible to transmit the payment file directy from D365 to the on-premise network folder and if yes how.

A gateway basically creates an API that can be called from outside, so you could call it from your code.

Yes, it's possible to "to transmit a file directly from D365 to the on-premise network folder" - by exposing the folder to internet. That's the option 1 in my previous reply. The main problem with this approach is security.

    Hi,

If we go for the option 2) use something like the on-premises data gateway,

should we always transmit file to the Azure storage / SP in order for the azure service (e.g., Logic App to pick up the file from there which were transmitted from D365 and then send files to the on-premise network folder?

Or, is it also possible to extend the ER destination to 'webservice' and let Logic app call this webservice in D365 and transmit files to the on-premise network folder without having to store it in Azure storage or SP?

I think you can write code any code you like for the saving the file, but the question whether you should. The best code is the one that you don't have to design, write, test and keep maitaining, therefore I would prefer using existing logic as much as possible. Ask yourself whether implementing your own solution will bring you enough benefits to justify the investment.

    Hi,

if we use the on-premise data gateway,

should we always use cloud services (e.g., logic app) to have access (transmit) to the on-premise network folder?

Or can we access to the on-premise network folder directly from D365 code?

That's what I talked about in my previous reply.
