Angelique, With the method I suggested, you would no longer have to adjust the taxes at the POS, simply set an appropriate customer. Perhaps this is too complex to explain over this medium. If you'd like, you can certainly call in to our tech support line and I'd be happy to speak with you if I am available, otherwise anyone in out tech support department should be able to assist with this.

ok tried this and either u have completly lost me or something..lol..i tried it..let me explain this..when i do a sale item..i select taxes from the bottom and then a tax screen comes up and it says gst and hst and both are selected but its normal tax...well when i unselect hst it goes to reason code which is native exempt and then after i click ok..under the items it says tax code change and then the txes go to 0..well we need the 5% to work...

heres what I am thinking..maybe..that somewhere we can possibly have it where it says dont pay 5% so its kind of conteracting each other ..does that make sense..

     anyways plz help with this..ty

Angelique, If you only have these two tax setups, regular and the special one for Indian customers, you may be able to setup Customer Based Taxes. You will need to enable this option in Store Operations Manager in File -> Configuration. Here you set a tax for walk-in customer (default tax), but then you can pick a field from a customer record (I'd suggest on of the CustomText fields if they are not being used) and add a specific value to this field (Tax1 for example). Now under Database, Item Taxes will have changed to Custom Taxes. You will then need to create a Custom tax with the Name and Description of Tax1 that will only have the Sales Taxes you need. So everyone with a CustomText set to Tax1 would get one set of taxes, and everyone else would get the default. It's a bit of a work-around, but I think it will do what you are looking for.

    Re: Re: Tax exempt issues

I apoligize..its 2.0 and sales and item tax is set up as HST but I need an exemption for Indian status cards which will remove 8 percent i believe and they only pay 5%...

and this is only done on the sales tax side..so I created another sales tax at 5 % and when we scan everything in and go to the tax part and uncheck the HST and check the Tax exempt one..then we get no tax at all..

I have checked this and rechecked this over and over again..the first time we had an issue it was looking for reason code so I gave it a native tax exempt reason on the tax types..

so this is by cashier intervention..just before cash out

I have done this before and no issues I dont know what the problem is..thanks

Sorry but I think we need some additional information to be of any help. -Is this POS 2.0, POS 2009, RMS 1.3, or RMS 2.0? -How are your Sales Tax & item Taxes setup (or Tax Authorities in POS) -Are you determining tax exemption by customer, by item or by cashier intervention? Let us know and perhaps we can be of better assistance.
