CRM upgrade from 2011 to 2016

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We are planning to upgrade our CRM 2011 to CRM 2016 . Right now we have all the oraganisations and active directory configured in the CRM 2011.

Now if we upgrade it to 2016 weather we have to recreate all these things again? . And can we add new solutions to the upgraded CRM interface along with the existing Solution?

RE: CRM upgrade from 2011 to 2016

    Hi,

(Assuming you are already aware of CRM 2011 needs to upgrade to 2013 -->2015-->2016 )

I am not sure which options you are using for upgrade. Either Side By Side or In-Place Upgrade.

    Reference - (community.dynamics.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-crm-upgrade-from-crm-2011-to-crm-2013)

    MSDN: technet.microsoft.com/.../hh699673.aspx

    1. Side by Side ( New CRM App Server and New SQL Instance - Recommended ) :

    - You will need to re-import all the Organizations and during import you will be asked to map the CRM User's with AD.

    - The Existing Solutions will be upgraded. If you have any vendor solutions , you may need to check with them for any unsupported or patches required along the upgrade.

    - New Solutions you need to make sure they are supported/compatible with you each upgrade versions.

    2. In-Place Upgrade ( Existing Environment - Risky ):

    - No Re-Import of Organizations. No require to map Users in AD

    - The Existing Solutions will be upgraded. If you have any vendor solutions , you may need to check with them for any unsupported or patches required along the upgrade.

    - New Solutions you need to make sure there are supported/compatible with you each upgrade versions.

Suggestion: Have rigorous checklist to make sure you are testing you organization after each version upgrade and definitely your custom code for any unsupported endpoints.
