Installing Service Packs

Posted on by 1,855

Hello, I'm new go GP and I'm totally confused as to how GP works with regards to service packs and upgrades.  When installing a service pack do I need to install the service pack on each workstation?  GP has a Dynamics database which is shared but it also has a Dynamics.set file which can be different on each workstation.  So I'm not sure how the two relate to each other.  Can somone please explain the relationship between the Dynamics database and the Dynamics.set file?  Thanks.

Joe

    Hi Joe

There are 2 things which are updated during the GP upgrades.

    1. Database upgrade  (which needs to be processed just once for a DYNAMICS instance  (and the companies).

    2. Application Files upgrade (which has to be done on every workstation)

So you will typically install the service pack on all the workstations, but launch the GP Utilities to upgrade the database files from the server alone. :)

Let us know if you need further assistance.

    Joe,

Yes. You need to install SP and upgrade first on Server and then on each workstation. I will prefere to create "Client Installation" package and do installation on each workstation this way your Dynamics.set file will be same on each workstation.

    Thanks
