Work not created after Wave creation in Batch order Raw material pick using WHS in AX 2012 R3

Hi,

I am trying to setup WHS for batch order raw material picking. I have set up wave template, work template, location directive. Wave template has Automate Wave creation, Process wave at release to WH and Automate wave release as active. The reservation is during Estimation and release to WH is Require full reservation. The raw material, finished good, co-product are all tracked using Batch numbers. Raw material pick loctation is non-license plate controlled. Raw material putloctation is license plate controlled. There is enough stock in the pick location to complete the batch order.

In the batch order, I have not provided the Batch number and License plate# from where the inventory for raw material must be picked. When I release the Batch order, Wave is created, but I get this error 'Unable to find work center input location for production consumption.' No work is created.

Now, I go back and provide the Batch number and License plate# from where the inventory for raw material must be picked. Then I release the batch order once again. The wave that was created earlier is showing as 'Picked' and it is moved to Closed production wave section. Until no no work is created for the production wave.

Can you please help me what setting am I missing.

Do you have the "Default production input location" specified on the Warehouse?

Alternatively, there is something wrong with your route setup (On your resources, on resource group does not have an input location specified)

    Hi Ivan,

Thank you for the reply. I did not configure any routes or resources for Batch order processing. On the Warehouses form, I do not see any setting named "Default production input location". Can you please help me to locate it.  I can see a setting named " Default issue location" in the Inventory and Warehouse Management fast tab. This setting is currently disabled. Is this the one you are referring to?

That was added in CU8, apparently you are on an earlier build.

Since you do not have any route assigned, can you check your BOM setup?

You will need to assign a warehouse on each of the BOM lines. As far as I remember, that was mandatory back then.

More about the CU8 functionality here:

    Hi Ivan,

Thank you for the reply. I wanted to pick a raw material with item type as 'None', that is not a BOM. I am using a build earlier that CU8.

Right. You are producing a finished good, which has a Bill of material set up for it, describing the raw materials and corresponding quantities that comprise this finished good.

On each of the lines there, for each of the raw materials, you need to specify a warehouse

    Hi Ivan,

My finished product has one raw material and one coproduct.

I have mentioned the WH name for the Raw material on the formula, but I have NOT mentioned the WH for the co-product. Will this be the cause of the issue?

No, I don't think that you need to specify warehouse on the co-product. after all they are not even considered when you do the picking.

Can't help you further, I am afraid, I guess you'll have to debug through it.

There were too many changes in that area around CU8 released as various hotfixes. It might be that on your specific build it is mandatory to have the resources set up with input locations.

Consider installing the hotfixes around this, or upgrading to CU8 - there were a number of good fixes in there.

Thanks Ivan. We are in the processing of upgrading to CU8. I will try after the upgrade is complete and let you know.

    Hi,

One of the most common reason for this top happen "as the prod order is released to warehouse and wave is processed then no work is created and wave status changes to picked and is closed".

Dynamics has not created any work intentionally as there is inventory of the raw material of the FG item lying exactly on the input locations of the resource or resource groups.

This is a very common scenario

    Consider this

We created a production order Prod-01 for FG item Item B for 11 pcs  which needs item D in 11 pcs as a raw material

Now as this order is released work is created to bring raw material item item D to resource input location I4. As the work was completed now 11 pcs of item D are on the input location of the machine,

Now if this production order is cancelled for any business reason then these 11 pcs of item raw material are still lying at the input location free now.

Now the next prod order for the item B when released will get no work created as the raw material item D is lying exactly at the location where the allocated resource wants them to be.
