Error Connecting to CRM using Report Builder

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hey guys,

I just found out about SQL Server Report Builder, and this tool looks like a great way to customize the layout of CRM reports without needing to know Visual Studio.

However, while I can open a .rdl file I downloaded from our CRM server, I cannot get the program to connect.

See here:

You can see that the URL is correct...

I tried running the program as the same user that the Report Server is running as, that didn't help either.

    Hello,

If you work and plan to design reports for CRM Online then Report Builder is not an option. Believe me I worked both RB and VS - tools do not have a lot of differences. So your only choice is VS - BIDS (or SQL Server Data Tools how it is called now) + FetchXml Authoring extension installed.

    It's not CRM Online.  It's CRM 2011 on-premise.  We're running SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services.

Ok. In this case you should use other type of DataSource for your report. You should use SQL Server data source and define connection credentials to your CRM Database.

So then what do I actually type in the program when it asks for the server? I tried using the IP as well as the hostname and it errors, as you can see in my first post.

    Hello,

So enter this information. Do you know Url of your report server (I believe it is not the same as your CRM server)?

    Yes...

It's the same URL as our CRM server - both CRM server and SQL reporting are running on the same machine... intentionally.

Ok. Then try to enter url but with Reports or ReportServer on the end (as far as I can see on first screenshot you tried url without it).
