I ran into this a couple of weeks ago. The firewall that was being used updated and closed the SQL port.
I have encountered this before with some of my clients. In a few cases, a reboot of the workstation resolved the issue. In some other cases, uninstalling the SL client and installing it again resolved the issue. I never determined what caused the issue but suspect it was either a corrupt/incorrect DLL still in memory or a DLL used by SL that got replaced with an incompatible version from the install of another program.
