Vendor collaboration portal - User role "Vendor contact (external)"

Hi Experts,

In the recent updates 10.0.18 PU42, the security role "Vendor (external)" has been replaced by the user role "Vendor contact (external)".

Looks like this involved a license change as well and as of now it looks like each external vendor that needs to interact via the vendor collaboration portal requires a full operation license, while previously just the basic team license was sufficient.

Is there any way to allow external vendors with with just a team license to access the vendor collaboration portal to approve or reject their own purchase orders?

Is there any official source where this change is described?

Hi.

On my 10.0.18 PU42 environment it looks like the role only triggers a team member license.

You must have made some additions to the role, which contains elements triggering the Operations license.

It could also be a 3rd party tool which have added elements to the role.

If you check the "view permissions" form on the security role, then you can identify which element(s) result in the Operations license.

Hi Nikol,

In 10.0.18, by default the 'Operations' License is mapped to Vendor contact (external) role.

This issue is fixed in 10.0.20 as below

Thank you for providing a screenshot, this makes it quite clear.

I can see that the license referenced when assigning the role to the users seems to indicate that it is an Operations license.

However if you check directly on the security role, you will find that there is no element (menu item) that triggers an Operations license.

It seems to be some strange display error when assigning the role to users.

Hi Sridhar,

When there are no adjustments to a certain role out of the box, the licensing guide is leading. This guide is mentioning the minimum license requirement as team member.

Note that Microsoft has various sources to present the role license on the forms. Alex Meyer and me had some discussions with Microsoft. Microsoft is making progress in getting the correct information on forms and on reports. Alex is providing information on his blog: alexdmeyer.com/.../

Hi Andre,

please confirm if Vendor Contact role (that will consume a Team Member License)is still applicable as there was an information regarding PowerApps for external collaboration - no such details on the web on vendor collaboration with PowerApps.
