Barcode Not Being Passed into RMS 2.0

I wonder if anyone may be able to shed some light on the following issue.

An identical replacement Honeywell MS9520 barcode scanner has been purchased to replace the original failed barcode scanner. The replacement scanner has been tested and passes scanned barcodes into Notepad with a new line feed as detailed in the user guide for the barcode scanner. So the barcode scanner is confirmed to be working properly.

However, when logged into the RMS till software the barcode ends up being delivered to the RMS Manager user id field of the login screen instead of being passed into the till system. This system was setup many years ago and there is no documentation and the original supplier is no longer known. The installed version is MS Dynamics 2.0 RMS, btw.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same question (0)

What type of store do you have and what city/state are you in? I might be able to help or recommend someone depending on your business type and location. Might need to log in to see what is happening but RMS can't tell a barcode scan from a user ID number scan (without some sort of customization) if you are requiring a cashier to log in before each transaction. That is something that new POS programs (like Cloud Retailer for Liquor Stores) can now handle correctly.

    Hi Ridgedale,

Are you stating that POS is open, and the cursor is on the Item Lookup Code field, and somehow the somehow the scan ends up in Manager at the Login screen?

    pastedimage1618931997938v2.png

Was the previous scanner configured with OPOS drivers?

If so,was the new scanner set up with the same OPOS device name?

Just a note that Mainstream support for Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 ended on July 10, 2016; and extended support ends on 7/13/2021:

This is less than 3 months from now; and you can continue using RMS after this date but technical support will not be available.

I would recommend checking with your partner in regard to what they may recommend as a replacement system after the extended support end date.

RE: Barcode Not Being Passed into RMS 2.0

    Hi Kevin,

Apologies for the delay in responding and thank you for your reply. The store is a small gift shop in the front half of the office, located in Coniston, Cumbria, UK. I subsequently unearthed the contact details of the original installer of the POS system (by guesswork using one of the account logins and a search for text string "barcode scanner"), but have been informed today that the company no longer supports or installs POS systems, and the advice was simply to scrap and replace the system given the proximity of the end of the extended support for MS Dynamics 2.0 RMS (July this year - which I am well aware of).

Anyway, following further research I came to the conclusion that the issue may have been related to permissions. I managed to get access to the administrator account in MS Dynamics Store Operations Manager and could see that the barcode scanner was not registered for the administrator account. I then registered the device and rebooted the computer, but now having rebooted the PC the system now returns the following error when logging into the RMS Till software or the RMS Store Operations Manager:

    CLC_2D00_SOMerror.png

Then clicked on the Yes button to continue and then found the installed printer would not print?!
One or both of the following receipt printers are also installed:

    • Star PSP 100 receipt printer (main printer used regularly)
    • LP 2844 barcode/labels printer (hasn’t been used in a while)?

The system was rebooted again and the printer started printing again, but the error message relating to the scanner remains.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Todd...,

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you and thank you for your reply.
Are you stating that POS is open, and the cursor is on the Item Lookup Code field, and somehow the somehow the scan ends up in Manager at the Login screen?
That is correct.
Was the previous scanner configured with OPOS drivers?
Yes, I believe so.
If so,was the new scanner set up with the same OPOS device name?
I think so. I got the device name by searching the registry.

I originally setup the replacement scanner within the cashier id 2 as follows:

    InitialScannerRegistration.png

    InitialRegistrationList.png

Following further research I felt the issue may have caused by a lack of permissions. I eventually got hold of the administrator login credentials and found that the replacement scanner was not registered for the administrator account. I therefore registered the scanner in the same manner and rebooted the PC.

After the reboot the error message appeared as follows:

Warning 926 : The scanner driver was not found.
                Do you wish to continue?

If ogot to mention the following in my reply to Kevin, that when I logged into RMS Store Operations Manager the replacement scanner was now ticked under the Register #1 listing and no longer under the Scanner 2013 MS9520 listing. I realised in hindsight that there perhaps should only have been a single register listing, so I removed the Scanner 2013 MS9520 listing and rebooted the PC again at which point the connected printer stopped working temporarily before rebooting again.

At this point the RMS Store Operations Manager is flagging up the missing scanner driver every time any component of the RMS software is launched.

Does the printer use the same OPOS driver?

Again, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!  I hunted through several years worth of support tickets but could not find anything matching your issue. I also hunted through our RMS tech tips but nothing matched the issue that you are having :(

RE: Barcode Not Being Passed into RMS 2.0

Is there a reason you are not using the scanner as a keyboard wedge device? That should be the default configuration when you plugged in the scanner. No need to install an OPOS driver or define a Scanner in register properties.

As a keyboard wedge device you can test scans in Notepad. If the barcodes scan properly in Notepad the scanner will work in RMS POS.
You may need to program a CR if the scan does not advance to the next line in Notepad. See the scan sheet guide from Metrologic.

Once working in Notepad remove the OPOS entry defined in Register Properties.

RE: Barcode Not Being Passed into RMS 2.0

    Hi RMS Wizard,

The scanner has already been tested and shown to be working fine in Notepad. The carriage return after the scanned barcode is produced as expected. I have subsequently removed the scanner from the Register list entry, rebooted the PC as suggested. The driver alert has now disappeared but the issue remains that the scanned barcode is not delivered to SOPOS but to the SO Manager login user id field automatically tabbing into the password field. See below.

Logged into SOPOS with the Item Lookup Code field active:

    LoggedInSOPOS.png

Scanned barcode delivered to SO Manager login screen:

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Ridgedale,

That appears to be the Store Operations POS login screen.

If you type that barcode, into the Item Lookup Code field, does the correct item appear?

After adding an item, with the cursor in the Item Lookup Code field on the 2nd line, does the same issue occur?

RE: Barcode Not Being Passed into RMS 2.0

As ToddB notes that is the POS login screen not Store Operations Manager which displays the same login form upon startup but screen behind it would be the Manager application.

The same login form will pop-up in POS if you press F9 Secure (prompt for cashier login).

If manually typing in that item lookup code works but scanning does not, the scanner likely has some type of  prefix/suffix enabled. Try using the Metrologic scan sheet guide to reset the scanner to all defaults.

It manually typing in the lookup code doesn't move to the next line there is an issue with the database or item lookup code entry. To test that change the item lookup code to something else such as 1234 then change it back to 7994397606774 and test again by manually typing in the code.

Why does first screenshot appear to show a Mac border at the top?

Is that because you are logged in remotely from a Mac PC?

RMS version appears to be from 2007. What version is displayed upon pressing Ctrl-Shift-F1?
