Purchase Requisition not linked to an item

Hello guys,

I need to create a purchase requisition and proceed with creating an RFQ then successfully transition to a PO.

The process is simple and clear while the requested item is a released product in AX, but what if the PR, RFQ are not linked to a product?

For example: A simple scenario is, A company is looking for laptops with specific requirements regardless of the brand (RAM, HDD size, Screen Size, Core... / could be DELL, HP, TOSHIBA etc.). How can a user create such a purchase requisition or RFQ by specifying the requirements and not the Item itself.

I am using AX2012 R3 CU8

Thanks

You can use categories instead of an item.

How does the use of categories allow me to specify item requirements ?

Also do I need to create a new category for each request ?

Let's say I want to see which vendor will give me the best price for a 16GB/RAM 1TB HDD laptop. How do I do it in AX ?

You would be creating some list of categories as per your requirement. You can read below article - technet.microsoft.com/.../hh209418.aspx

    Hi Joey,

I would also use categories (as suggested by Ajit).

In the PR/RFQ you can overwrite the productname so here you can specify your requirement.

    For example:

Create a category named "laptop" -> use this category in your PR and rename "laptop" in the PR-Line/productname-field to "16GB/RAM 1TB HDD Laptop".

    Regards,

    Stefan
