Orders with the same Order ID

Dear All,

A bit of a strange issue, however, I still thought I would enquire to see if people had any suggestions.

We have a cloning plugin attached to our CRM that enables us to copy Contacts, Orders etc. In a few instances (by no means all) I have noticed that this has left me with two records with the same Order ID.

Is there any, relatively, pain free way to eradicate these duplicates (without basically deleting and recreating all the offending records).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Alex

    Hi Alex,

First of all I am guessing your plugin might be an asynchronous plugin vs. synchronous which could cause this type of behavior to occur if the right steps are not taken to protect against the duplicates.  Basically two async processes are running at the same time and both get the same order Id, actually OrderNumber field behind the scenes.  I still think this is odd that this is happening because I would expect the out-of-the-box auto-numbering of CRM would set the ordernumber field and this would be done synchronously and it would not allow duplicates.

    Thoughts / Questions:

    1.  Can you make the plugin synchronous?  This might have performance impacts so need to make sure this is possible based on your business process.

    2.  You are talking about the ordernumber field on the Order entity right?

    Thanks,

    Hi Alex,

I don't have a solution for fixing your duplicated records, but I'd like to suggest an add-on to help clone the records that will prevent these issues. I was a developer on the CRM Snapshot project, and it's totally free and I'm really proud of what we've built www.cobalt.net/dynamics-crm-snapshot

We tried to make it really easy to configure a workflow to let you clone a record and related records, and even pick fields that you want excluded from the clone. For your issue with the orders, you would create a workflow to clone the order and its products, but exclude the order number. This will ensure you always get a new order number, but otherwise a duplicate record.

Let me know if you have any issues with the add-on. If this was helpful, I'd appreciate if you could mark this as the verified answer.

    Thanks,

     Aiden

    Alex,

Maybe the revision number is different?

If in the Quote I know that we can copy but resulting same ID with different revision number.
