Migration from WMSII to Warehouse Management Process

Hi

I am working on a migration project from WMSII to Warehouse Management Process available in AX2012R3.

Implementation Methodology

I have following implementation methodology

- Recreate all the items, by using the upload template (Storage dimensions enabled for warehouse management process)

- Recreate all the warehouses and location (Warehouse management process enabled) by using the upload template

- Update the BOM for semi-finished and finished good items (Batch job)

- Associate the routes for new created semi-finished and finished good items (Batch job)

- Update the stock for the newly created items with warehouse management process enabled

- Quality order association for newly created items/item groups if requried

Questions

  1. What are the best practices for migration from WMSII to Warehouse management (AX2012R3)
  2. Can I perform quality test validations and test results entry by using the mobile device?
  3. Why is non-conformance feature not available for warehouse management R3?
  4. What is the menu item for production order picking?

Looking forward to your comprehensive replies

Hi Ali, please separate individual tags with comma, don't prefix them with # and use spaces between words (you created a single long tag #WarehouseManagement #AX2012R3 #MobileDevice #QualityOrder). Also, instead of attaching the version to the title, simply make sure you select the right version below the body (note that "current version" means AX 7, not AX 2012) and if you want to add more details, use additional tags (e.g. AX 2012 R3). I'm going to fix it for you in this case.

    Hi Ali,

Its typical to migrate from WMS to new WHS solution in a moving business and requires pre testing of the migration approach to avoid last minute surprises.

Here is an excellent blog from Per Lykke Lynnerup to migrate from WMS to WHS.

     blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../migration-of-microsoft-dynamics-ax-wms-to-new-r3-warehouse-and-transportation-functionality

I tried the same and it is simple the best practice to migrate.

Yes you need to test all business process as without mobile device there is no way to survive in new WHS

There is no direct work creation process for raw material picking and you have to use "System directed" option along with mode set to "Work" in mobile device menu item.

    2. No, it's not possible to record Test results via the mobile device.

    4. (I think) Production order picking work is created from within the AX client, so you will be using the menu items which are for 'Use existing work'.
