Install Updates on Test Database

Posted on by 30

Hello,

We have RMS installed on a SQL 2008 server. I need to install FP2 and the latest cumulative update. I've used SQL Management Studio to backup the production database, and restore it as RMSTEST. I've taken a test PC and changed the connection from the production database to the new test database. Can I now safely install the FP2 update on the test PC, and then update test database? It is my understanding that the update does not change the SQL server, only the particular database that the client is connected to, and that this method should work for us testing the new updates.

Thanks for any help!

The sql database engine/server settings are unaffected.  The database is modified slightly.
