Move values of one field to another field

Hi

I have never used dynamics before.  I have imported data from Goldmine and finding Dynamics to be great.  However, on the import I mapped our British "County" to US style "State".  For the sake of tidiness, I want to change the Account form to show "County" field instead of "State" (rather than rename the "State" label).  I can do this easily, but can't find out how to move (or copy) all of the "State" fields to the "County" fields for all records.

A couple options - if the fields are the same data type you could create a workflow that can be run on demand and sets the "County" field to the value from the "State" field. You could run an Advanced Find on records where the "County" field doesn't contain data and then select the resulting records and run the workflow.

Another option would be to run the same query and export the data to Excel using the option to make the data available to be re-imported. You could then make your changes in Excel in bulk and re-import the updated data.

    Set Properties ->

Click in the field you want to update, pick the field you want o move the value from (Look for) and Save and Close

Just the job.  Thank you very much indeed.

I hadn't grasped the concept that these workflows are Form dependant.

I modified the form, then went back to the process, followed your instructions and all was great.

Thank you again.  You couldn't have been more helpful.

    Same issue different scenario...

I am an avid searcher on PowerObjects for new tips and tricks for Dynamics CRM 2013, awesome resource for CRM newbs like myself.

However, I am a little confounded, I have a field which was originally created as a text field called property id. Now, I have a need to change this field from text to a lookup and move the pre-existing data.

Our account names (regarding) are the primary field on the account record but as I was attempting to load notes through the bulk import, I received errors as the account names have duplicates (hotel names with different ids) so it failed.

Any suggestions on how to accomplish this task easily?

    Hi Jason,

I have a similar question wherein I had a field of type Two Option on my form and later I created a new field with OptionSet. Now I want to move the data of my Two Option field to OptionSet field.  What I am trying is to get the old field values through QueryExpression and putting in a collection. I am just guessing that I need to just update that one field for all the records. But I am not sure how to copy those values to the new OptionSet field. Could you please suggest me on this?

Also this is not a part of actual customization. This is a part of Data Correction. Is there a generic way of copying the data from one field to another irrespective of data type?

    Regards,

    Ganesh A

I had a similar issue that was tough when CRM was on-premise.  With Dynamics 365, I can open my Contacts in Excel Online, copy from one field (column) to another and click update.
