Emailing Invoices Shows Full Directory Path in File Name

Hello everyone!

We've recently been trying to setup the invoice emailing functionality in Dynamics GP but are running to an issue. We've setup everything and have done a few tests, but there seems to be something odd happening. The invoice's file name in the email received includes the full directory path of the file when it was on the server. Here's how it looks:

File-name.PNG

I haven't seen any way to change the file name in GP. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

For reference, the GP version we are using is: Dynamics GP 2016 R2 (16.00.0579)

Thank you!

RE: Emailing Invoices Shows Full Directory Path in File Name

I suspect this is an issue with how the email generation in Dynamics GP interacts with the the Outlook mail client.  This issue did not seem to exist prior to Outlook 2016.  Environments that upgraded to Outlook 2016 and Outlook 2019 have experienced this where it did not happen in Outlook 2013.

Here is a link that seems to describe the same issue from a developers perspective:

    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/6b9dca06-27c0-48d0-884f-5afcaf9ad6b9/outlook-2019-attachment-names-not-showed-as-supposed?forum=outlookdev

This developer is illustrating the differing results in how a parameter is passed along from his application to Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2019.  I suspect that a similar issue is happening with Dynamics GP.

The GPUG users group had a similar thread going:

    https://www.gpug.com/communities/community-home/digestviewer/viewthread?MessageKey=6b56df29-6151-43e2-910e-d7b550fe1794&CommunityKey=4754a624-39c5-4458-8105-02b65a7e929e&tab=digestviewer

Testing there seems to indicate that the full path only appears for users on the local domain and that external recipients see just the file name as is expected.

It looks like some have seen some improvement by moving from Outlook 2016-19 to Outlook 365.

It looks like programming used by Dynamics GP is now handled differently by the Outlook client.  This may be something that needs to be escalated to Dynamics GP support to be addressed in a future service pack.
