Tools (Need to be added to production orders as Non-consumable items). How do I get this done?

We have around 1500 different tools in our shop and I have them on a list in Excel. My task is to add the tools to AX so they can be applied to production orders that they're needed for. I'm new to AX and I'm unsure how to go about completing this task. We use AX 2009 so there's no resources, just work center groups and work centers. I've thought about adding them to the BoM for each order, but I can't figure out how to make it so they aren't consumed at the end of each order. Any advice on the how to complete this task?

You can create a Work Center Group of type 'Tool', and create your Tools as Work Centers.

There some help from AX4 on these concepts here:

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../aa571511(v=ax.10).aspx

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../aa499880(v=ax.10).aspx

But I think the AX 2009 production manuals would be better. Try searching CustomerSource for 80022 and 80023; you can still download them.

If you are not using resources then consider making those zero value inventory items, and receive the changeparts/tools back into stock as by products.

For cost collection either add it to overheads, or add a service item.

You can create a Work Center group /Work Center  with type Tool. You can group similar tools under one work center group and define the individual tools in the group. In your Route, you can attach work center groups (tools) or specific tool to you operations. These does not consume your tools in any way as the system treats this as a resource or work center.
