Adding e-mail attachment from Outlook 365 to Dynamics 365 with the Dynamics 365 app.

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Recently I added the add-in Dynamics 365 to my Outlook 365. The app can add e-mail (contacts / addresses) as Accounts, Leads, etc. but I can't figure out how to add an e-mail attachment (just the attachment and not the text) to an existing lead or account. I can add activities like tasks, phone calls and appointments but there is no option to add a note - attachment (or notes that are currently attached in the e-mail).

Any clue how this can be done?

Thanks in advance.

Can one programmatically download to SharePoint?

Just asking again to check if it was updated or if we still cannot attach it from email without downloading it...

    Hi NicolasMous,

Yes. This is currently not possible.

Because there is no such OOB feature, and the Note panel cannot be customized.

So you could only download attachments first and then upload it.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you Lu Hao and Srihari! Now I can indeed easily add attachments directly from Outlook to my Dynamics Lead or Account.

Though I hoped it was possible to add the attachments in the e-mail directly to the account or lead, without having to download and select them first. I guess that isn't possibly?

    Hi NicolasMous,

D365 APP for Outlook interface is actually similar to D365 Unified Client Interface(UCI). So you could refer to UCI to find out how to add attachments.

Click the Search button on the D365 for Outlook home page to go to the record where you want to add an attachment.

Scroll down the page and find the Timeline tab.

Click "Enter a note..." to add a note and click the paperclip button on the right to add an attachment.

    Hi Nicolas,

You need to download the attachment first. Then navigate to the Account/Lead/entity record in Dynamics 365 App for Outlook. Scroll down to the Activity Timeline to add a new Note. There, you can choose the attachment button to add an attachment.
