Is it possible to make BankChequeTable editable (even after posting)?

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a customization related to BankChequeTable in D365FO.

The requirement is to allow editing of a custom field (e.g., Cheque status after posting) at any time — including when the cheque is already posted/paid/voided.

I’ve tried the following approaches:

  • Table extension + new field

  • Form DataSource AllowEdit = Yes

  • Overriding allowEdit() via Form DS extension

  • Control extension on the grid field

  • Creating a child table joined to BankChequeTable

However, the form is a List Page (Toolbar and List pattern) and the grid remains read-only due to document/status locking.

So my questions are:

  1. Is there any supported way to make fields on BankChequeTable editable after posting?

  2. Can List Page grid editability be overridden safely?

Any guidance or real implementation experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Can you please explain in more detail why you want to edit the data after is was posted? Functionally I don't agree with what you want to do because it's not fully clear.

However if it fully makes sense to update a field, you could create a dialog form and add the menu item of the dialog form to the listpage / form in question.

When the user selects a record and clicks the menu item, your custom dialog is shown modally, with only the field or fields that are allowed to be edited. The user can update the field and click OK or Cancel. When OK is clicked, you can update the data in code.

    Hi,

This table is controlled by the cheque life-cycle and the form pattern enforces record locking after posting, so the grid becomes read-only. Making core fields editable is not supported.

You can create a separate table with recid reference of main table and store your data there for reference.
Overriding the form is not a safe option as per standard behaviour.

    Why the business required this?

    Thanks and Regards,

    Thanks for your response.

The user does not need to edit any cheque data or financial information after posting.

They only want to add a custom field called “Status after posting” (Enum), which is purely informational.

Well in that case the dialog will do the trick. It's also possible to multi select records to update more than one at a time.
