Why is this happening in Sales Order Navision 2018?

Hi Community,

In customer card, my users feedback that there is no easy way for them to insert the contacts.

So what they do is they will put the contact person and contact number on the "Contact" dropdown field of the Sales Order under the General fast tab as shown below.

Question: I notice that Contact no. do not let me put anything on the field, but why does Contact allows that?

When user asked me, I have no answer. It seems strange to me as well. Anyone?

    Thanks for clarifying that its not a bug.

    However, then it leaves me a bit puzzled.

    If Microsoft Navision purposefully leave that area for users to key in, i'm pretty sure it's because they received feedback that tying the contact list to the Sales Order is troublesome.

    However, allow users to key in on the contact Name, leaves Navision support guys like myself in a sticky position of how to explain why we need to tie the contact to a database.. haha..

    But I understand that we can't really decide why it was handled his way.

    Thanks for your reply. Just a few thoughts..

    Since you also tried and can be edited, I think it might not be a bug.

    Then it seems to me that it has been there even in the previous version. Also as Yun Zhu has pointed out, even BC can be edited.

    So the point here why is it able to store the information there without tying it to any database else where. Haha...

    Hi, Sorry to use BC for the screenshot.

    This is because the TableReleation property is set in the Contact Code, and you can only enter the data in the Contact table. But there is no setting in Contact Name, so you can enter any value.

    Hello,

    I ran the scenario.

    1. created a new customer

    2. clicked on the three dots next to Contact Code (the company contact which is the customer you just created is listed there / if not the changes have not yet been written to the database)

    3. press new, enter details

    4. select the contact of person type and the contact details are added to the Customer card under Contact  (Contact Code / Contact).

    Not sure if that is what the user experience is and if that is too difficult for them. At least this is the experience in standard.


    On the Sales Order page, you can select an existing Contact via Contact No. or via Contact. The contact number cannot be edited as it is most likely part of a Number series. 

    The Contact field can indeed be edited. You can consider this to be bug as the contact name is nowhere stored elsewhere as it does not have a contact number associated with it. Feel free to raise it so we from support can ask the product group to confirm if this is indeed something that should be addressed or not.
