Team Member License - Service Management

Posted on by 319

Does anyone have experience on what permissions/capabilities a Team Member license user has within the Service Management module that is enabled with BC Premium?

We are testing in a sandbox, and our Team Member license users are unable to edit service documents (service quotes, service orders). I'm wondering if this is a permissions issue, or something that is not allowed with a Team Member license. They are able to edit existing sales documents, as well as create Sales Quotes.

The licensing guide states team members can do the following, but does not specify by application area.

Dynamics 365 Business Central Team Members use rights:
(i) Read anything within Dynamics 365 Business Central
(ii) Update existing data and entries in Dynamics 365 Business Central - existing data are records like customer, vendor or item records which are already created. Entries means entries on which it is specifically allowed from an accounting perspective to update specific information. (e.g. due date on customer ledger entries)
(iii) Approve or reject tasks in all workflows assigned to a user
(iv) Create, edit, delete a quote
(v) Create, edit, delete personal information
(vi) Enter a time sheet for Jobs
(vii) Use PowerApps for Dynamics 365
(viii) A Team Members application module may not be customized with more than 15 custom entities available to the Dynamics 365 Team license*

We are facing the same challenge. In fact. the service engineers at our customer site are not able to input / edit service item worksheet which is all he wants to do.. the central team with Premium license is ready to post service shipments and service invoices.. I have also raised this to Microsoft. Let us see what they have to say.

As far as I know, there is no other way, the Team Member license is very limited and if you want to modify the data of the Service module, this requires a Premium license.
Or you can try other ways such as Device license, external license, etc.

    Hope this helps as well.

    Thanks.

I understand not being able to mix Premium and Essentials. If the Team Member users are allowed to do basic editing of existing sales documents etc in Essentials, then I believe they should be able to do the same basic edit functionality on service documents.

    Hi,

    1. Microsoft segregate license with defined roles and features. Business Central D365 license can be purchase via CSP. Type of license as below:
    • Essentialà This license includes all features of BC D365 excluding Manufacturing & Service Module. It is names license.
    • Premiumà This license includes all features of BC D365 including Manufacturing & Service Module. It is names license.
    • Team Memberà This license includes BC D365 accessibility with read-only mode along with some selected task.
    • Device Userà This license allows multiple users to use application simultaneously.

    1. Information regarding Business Central D365 for trail license (further information, refer the link https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=866544), as below

You can not have a mix of Essential and Premium licenses in the same environment. The essential vs. premium choice is global for your license.

So your ordinary users will have a different price depending on the global choice for your license.

The Team Members have the same price regardless of the BC edition you run. And i think that explains why they can not do more in the premium setting than in the essential setting.

RE: Team Member License - Service Management

Yes, we have the premium license for our heavier users. These Team Member employees need very basic edit functionality in the service module. They are only entering data on existing service documents. Not setting up items, customers, creating documents, doing reporting etc. It seems crazy that Microsoft would force us to upgrade all these $8/month users to $100/month just for the same functionality these users have on sales documents in the Essentials version today.

Yes, the Team Member License only lets you read data from the service module in BC. And that require the BC Premium license as well. The service management module can not be used if the company have an essential license.
