Modifying Scott Durow's MultiEntitySearch for different entities

Mr. Durow's MultiEntitySearch is very nicely done. We have been evaluating it. I have been asked if it could not display "Users", but display "Sales Orders" instead. Not being familiar with the code or coding at all, I do not know where to start.

Has anyone any experience?

Do you have an admin role if not then you will not be able to do this.
