What are the Pros/Cons of posting Project Allocations back to the GL?

We are working on improving our Project reporting.  We currently calculate Project labor costs through the Allocator in the Project module.  We do not post the entries back to the GL.  Are there Pros/Cons to posting the entry back to the GL?  Any recommended validation process between the GL accounts (Salary, benefits, etc) to the Project allocation entry?
