YE Close process

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

This will be our first time using MSGP and performing a YE CLose.  We know that you have to be logged out of the system to do the back up.  Will everyone have to REMAIN out of the system once we start the close process?  Trying to determine if I should schedule the close on a weekend or just have everyone log out for a half a day during the week.

Thanks

make a smart list to check for income statement accounts marked as balance sheet accounts and vice versa.  Run before the year end close.  This will eliminate most of the need to restore a back up as accounts that need to roll will roll.

make a back up of the dbase and restore to a test company.  Roll in test to see how long it takes.  We have approx. 200,000 JE's for the year and it took approx. 90 minutes in test.  I will be rolling at 10 pm at night from home via remote access.

Keep in mind, that in case you need to revert to a backup, all the activity that happened since that backup has been taken will have to be recreated again. So it's better off for everybody to stay out.

Even though we were on GP for a long time, we had to restore during closing now and then.

Our closing usually takes an hour and accounting manager is doing it after hours, but since you are first time doing it, you better off schedule over the weekend.
