Microsoft Dynamics GP (Archived)

Company Data Archive Notification.

Posted on by 2

We have recently upgraded to GP 2013, and whenever I log on I get this notification 'company data archive notification', in that the process has not been completed.

What exactly does this procedure do? When / if data is archived can a users still have access to that data?

How will this affect performance of the database?

The upgrade went well, but this aspect was not implemented. I am looking at putting it forward to my manager.

    Thanks

The company data archive product was not set up. But it does sound like a great product. Where can I find more information?

    Hello Rosemary,

I hope your upgrade to GP 2013 went well.

I am assuming you are receiving the following Company Data Archive Notification:

Attention: Historical data has not been archived to date.

What exactly does this procedure do?

CDA allows you to move your historical data from your Microsoft Dynamics GP live company to an archive company.

This procedure allows you to free your live company database from historical data and enable you to access this data from the archive company at any time.

Consequently your performance within Dynamics GP is enhanced since more space will be allocated to your live company, however at the same time, your historical data will still be available in your archive company.

When / if data is archived can a user still have access to that data?

Yes, the user(s) will have access to the archived data at anytime. This process is as simple as switching to your live company in GP to the archive company.

How will this affect performance of the database?

Good question. The performance of the database is in fact, one of the greatest features of CDA.  Completing your archiving process with CDA  will enhance your live database performance within GP as more space will be allocated to your live company which once used to have a lot of historical data.

Rosemary, I hope all this information provided help, however, if you have any more questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

    Hi Rosemary,

The Company Data Archive product is sold by Professional Advantage. It is a third party tool that is used to transfer transaction history information from your production company to an 'archive' company. It's a great product and really the only one of its kind. You can add to your archive company as the years go by and you can even access inquiry screens into the archive company from the production company.

As part of your GP2013 upgrade, you should have also upgraded the Company Data Archive product. Do you know if that was completed?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
