All batch jobs stops automatically in night

Hi,

I am facing one strange issue in AX 2012 FP that all batch jobs are running fine during the day but at night 11 PM they are stuck in Executing status. Next day morning when we check the batch jobs then we find that all of them are still executing so we cancel them and then change the status to waiting then they immediately pickup and start running fine. The batch job which gets stuck is having recurrence of 15 min and other which are having one day recurrence are running fine. I have checked the Batch server timings etc and all seem to be fine (00:00:00 to 23:59:00).

Can anyone suggest me that what could be the issue?

Hi, do you see any errors in AX? Have you checked the Windows Event viewer for any errors? When is the backup of the SQL Server scheduled? Please give us more information.

Check the Windows event viewer (Application and System) on both the AOS(es) that are running the batch jobs, and on your SQL box, at around the time you see the problem.

Like the others, my money is on the database disappearing when a back up of some sort kicks in.

Hi Vishnu, Do u have any scheduled job [daily] with executing time of 11 pm onward?

    Hi All,

Thanks a lot to you for your suggestions. I have checked the DB scheduling and it is taking DB backup at around 1 AM each night and Logs are backed up after every 3 hours without any errors.

I couldn't find any suspicious thing in AOS server event viewer also. But i checked in SQL server event viewer and i found that there was logon attempt around 11 PM each day which gets failed. Below is the message:

Login failed for user 'N10\__103010sql'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database. [CLIENT: <local machine>].

But there were many more logon attempt failed at different times during the day so not sure if it was the main cause.

    Any suggestion is welcome.

    Thanks

Have you got something that is taking a backup of the server on which SQL runs?

I don't have this information as i don't handle the back up etc for this client. Can i confirm  it from some logs etc?

Sure, you can find history of backups. Look at SQL SERVER – Get Database Backup History for a Single Database, for example.

    Hi Vishnu,

I have seen backup software that takes a snapshot of the server - I guess this is most common in scenarios where the server running SQL is virtualised. The process of taking a snapshot was causing the database to disappear, and playing merry havoc with any overnight batch jobs that were running at the time.

If this was the case, I would expect to see error messages in the Application logs on the server that runs the batch AOS, complaining about the database. And I imagine something in the Event viewer on the SQL box would show that some backup process had started - even if it was just an informational message.
