AP Reference Number sequence limit

When the number sequence limit is reached I have seen that the size of the field can be customized to 8 characters.  How does this affect existing transactions?  Is it alright to increase the number of characters on a live database.  This is o version 7.0

RE: AP Reference Number sequence limit

    Hi Lorraine,

Yes, you can increase the size of the field up to the number of characters for which the field is defined.  Refnbr is a 10 character field.  Review KB 908830.

However, reference numbers are left justified  so to keep the current numbers like 999998 sorting lower than new 8 or 10 digit reference numbers of 01000001,  you might want to add 2 leading zeroes to all of the reference numbers in apdoc.refnbr, aptran.refnbr , apadjust.adjdrefnbr/adjgrefnbr.

Note that increasing the refnbr to 8 or 10 characters also causes check numbers to be increased.

This will require customizations to any screens or reports that use the reference number.
