Appointment change default value for "Show Time as"?

When creating a new appointment the default value of the 'Show time as' field is set to busy. For most cases this is find but I need to figure out if I can change the default. Normal methods of changing this don't work as the scheduling information section is locked so I can't touch the field. I have also tried to use a workflow but this field is not available even to be targeted by a workflow. Is there any other way to change the default value of this field from "Busy" to "Free"

In my case a code edit isn't a viable option but I do very much appreciate the information. Thank you.

    Hi Guido,

If the user tries to update the Start and End date on the Appointment Entity to an hour delay then the date time fields are showing the time as 00.00 instead of the time the appointment is scheduled.

In CRM 4.0, If the user tries to update the date time the time shows the value of the scheduled time.

EX: In CRM 2011 if the appointment is scheduled for 1 hour duration start time: 01/08/2013 8.30pm and End time: 01/08/2013 9.30pm. Now the user wants to postpone the appointment to 1hour and clicks on the Start date field it shows 00.00, users needs to scroll down or enter manually to select 9.30pm as start date.

In CRM 4.0 If the user selects the start date field to update it shows 8.30pm, so the user can easly select 9.30pm from the optionset.

I want to achieve the same as in 4.0 to 2011, is there a way to achieve this?? Please suggest me.

we have recently  upgraded to 2011 from 4.0 and we are on Update Rollup 13 now.
