FRx 6.7 SP12 LCK files

We have started to get lock files (.LCK) hanging in the SysData folder. I know the files are created when the GL index rebuilds for each company and should automatically remove itself once the indexing is completed. This seems to be occurring for all companies and all users each time FRx is initially opened or the default company is changed.

Workstations have full installations of FRx with shared SysData and IOData folders on the server.

Any suggestions on what is going on? Or, even better, how to resolve?  So far I have compacted the databases, exported and reimported the Spec Set and reviewed each company's setup.

Thanks in advance for any help.

RE: FRx 6.7 SP12 LCK files

    Hello Stuart,

Carolyn was correct in sending KB 932746, as you mentioned that you have encountered data corruption errors such as the 3709 error. It may be that the backup you restored to is not actually a good backup and that there is corruption in those files as well. I would suggest following the steps in the KB article to confirm the files that were restored successfully compact without error. If you continue to have problems, I would suggest making sure users are running a supported operating system (FRx is only designed to work on 32-bit OSes), that all users have the same FRx version installed, and that there are no anti-virus/anti-malware products blocking FRx's communication on the network. Refer to:

    2014857 FRx 6.x and 64-bit Support

    support.microsoft.com/.../2014857

If that all checks out and you still have problems, you may want to re-create the SysData folder from scratch. This will generate new versions of all of the FRx system files and will allow you to retain all report designs. The suggested process for creating the new SysData folder this is documented in the following article (you can skip the steps for "moving", but the overall process is the same):

861979 How to move Microsoft FRx 6.7 to a new server

    support.microsoft.com/.../861979

Also, I did not see it listed as to which Dynamics SL version is being used, but assuming it is at least Dynamics SL 2011, then it would be strongly recommended that you upgrade as soon as possible to Management Reporter 2012 to prevent these issues with FRx, as these problems do not exist in MR 2012 which is SQL based.

    Thanks!

RE: FRx 6.7 SP12 LCK files

Good afternoon, Carolyn. This started with "Error 3709 - The connection cannot be used to perform this operation. It is either closed or invalid in this context." This was followed by "Run-time error 5: Invalid procedure call or argument." A web search pointed to corruption in the SysData folder as the problem, so we copied the SysData folder from a backup. That's when we began getting "The GL Index for company <CPNYID> is currently being rebuilt by <UserID>."

    Stuart,

Thank you for posting this issue on the forum. are you getting any errors? It is also not clear when this started happening for your users. Since FRx is an older reporting solution, I suspect this has been working OK for quite sometime, but without warning this behavior started. can you let us know what ay have changed or been installed around the time this started happening?

I did come across this KB noting odd behavior as you indicate. Not sure if it will help:

    support.microsoft.com/.../you-receive-error-messages--and-frx-designer-does-not-start-when-micro

Please let us know any additional information or if this KB helps.

    Thank you,

    Carolyn
