Why is my field 'Not Applicable' for Field Level Security?

Hi, 

I've got a custom entity called 'Project File' and a field called 'Project File Number'. I would like to enable this field for Field Level Security (FLS), however it says that it's 'Not Applicable'. Some notes about this field:

  • It's a custom field, single line of text
  • It is the 'Primary Field' of the Project File Entity.
  • It has a red padlock next to the attribute when you look at the form (in customisation mode).
  • I have other custom fields on this entity which are applicable for FLS.

Does anyone know why this field in particular is 'Not Applicable'? Is it because it's the Primary Field? Is there anything I can do to make it work?

    Hi,

    The reason for this is that the primary display name attribute cannot be secured using FLS because it is used in lookups to display the name of the record and cannot be secured.

    You will need to create another attribute to hold the File Number if you want to secure it.

    File number here is a primary and non customizable field. Field level security can't be applied on non customizable fields. As mentioned by scott you can create a new field and for file number and apply security role. Please go through the below link for more details.
