Set GP 2010 Business Portal to ready-only for employees

We have a employee business portal based on GP 2010 that is planned to be decommissioned at year end. We'd like to stop employees from making changes in the portal, including W4 updates, payroll deduction changes, etc., but still allow them to view things. How best can we make the portal read-only?

    HI Jenks,

We don't use the HRM Self-Service portal in BP, but as far as I can see from the BP Administrator perspective is that you would have to remove some of the permissions from the 'Employee' security role in BP.. be very careful and write down what it is by default.

If you go under 'Site Actions > Site Settings > BP Administration > Data permissions, you should be able to find  the roles. When expanding 'Employee' role you should see 5 other entries :

    - Employee-All
    - Employee-BackOfficeUser
    - Employee-Restricted Directory Information
    - Employee-Restricted Manager
    - Employee-Restricted Self

Unfortunately the 2 permissions that are assigned by default for every 'Employee' company role (at least in our case) are Restricted Self and Restricted Directory Information.. which I believe provides access to enter/change their own employee information in the Employee portal.

Now I do remember that no employee can change directly their information in GP thru BP without going thru a workflow type approval... Thus you could just inform the manager that receive the notifications to not approve the changes and reject them. I don't think there is another 'easy' way to still provide access to the information without being able to update the data.
