Error in Excel REport Builder when Publishing to Reports Library

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Gettin an error when publishing an excel report to the REports Library. The error is 'Could not find a part of the path...'. When we change the report to a FILE type we can publish it to a Shared Network location.  From everything I have read, you can only publish to Reports Library IF you are using Sharepoint, is that correct?  The client does not have Sharepoint. If that is not correct, then why are we getting the error and what is the difference between publishing to the REports LIbrary and to the Network Share? The setup for publishing has a valid path for saving the Form up until the actual Form/Report Name . Thank you.

The difference between the two is just simply were the users are accessing the reports from. If you are using the Reports LIbrary then users are accessing the actual Reports Library in most cases via a web browser. The Network Share location is just a location on a server/computer that all users have access to and the reports are housed there.

Thank you. Can you clarify the difference between publishing to the Reports LIbrary versus to a Network Share?  Does one grant access to more users thatn the other (based on having SQL rights etc.)?

    Hi Lyn,

This is a bug in GP 2010 that will be fix with SP3 which is scheduled to be released in the next few months.

No, it is not true. You can either publish report to FILE or SHARE POINT.

    FILE:

    • To publish report in file,
    • check on Data Connection,
    • Set Path for Data Connection,
    • Check on Create Excel Report,
    • Set location for Excel Report.

For any clarification feel free to ask.

    Regards.
