Microsoft Dynamics GP2016 R2 - Year End Closing - Removed Discontinued Items in error

When performing year end inventory reconcile in routines, year end close, we chose to remove discontinued inventory with 0 quantity.
We have discovered this affects
• Customer sales history
• Inventory Item history is removed from GP
• Items are no longer available to archive to our Archive database.
We have a complete back up of the live company year end database.
We have the inactive discontinued inventory in Test Company.
What do you recommend in order to have accurate information archived?

We did it once about 10 years ago and realized what a mistake it was later on in the year.

I would recommend not doing it. It doesn't hurt anything to have the items there as discontinued.

To take away a couple of pain points with the discontinued inventory for the user experience:

    - In the item setup of each item you can select it to not be able to be back ordered in Sales Order Processing.

    - You can filter the lookups with a SmartList that shows only active items.

    - If you use the HITB, the latest version of GP lets you exclude any items with a quantity on hand of 0 on the report.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Yes the Remove Discontinued items process during the Inventory year end closing removes IV history for those items so if that is not something you want to do, then my recommendation is to just leave the items in the system.  Like Joseph mentioned in his post, you can exclude in certain lookups.  You won't be able to buy the item in Purchase order, but if the item did have quantities you could still sell in SOP as long as the option is allowed.  Most customers from my experience just leave the data intact and/or mark the item as inactive.

Thank you for using Microsoft Dynamics Communities,
