How can we overpay our unemployment tax?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Our mutual customer has an issue where the system sent the state incorrect taxable wages.  Maximum should of been $9,000 not $12,500.  Something is wrong with unemployment.

How can we overpay our unemployment tax?

Please advise at what the customer can look at.  We need to troubleshoot this, asap.

There is not much to the Unemployment settings.  You simply set your tax rate and wage limit by state and fed.  HR & Payroll > Setup - Unemployment Tax.  If you wish to pay more just change these settings.

My guess is that the unemployment tax setup window was not correct. This is not something that is maintained by the user as for the percentage, they can easily change the cap as well. I have not heard of the system using the incorrect number. I have heard of the cap number being incorrect. Of course, nobody ever changes it - but yet it gets changed!

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
