BP 4 - Add User from Another Domain With Only a One Way Trust

Posted on by 65
Would anyone happen to know if this is possible? I have Business Portal 4 installed on DomainA. We recently made an acquisition and have users in DomainB. We have a one way trust established currently and it doesn't sound like a two way trust is being setup anytime soon. I have setup my SharePoint environments to allow for users from DomainB to access sites in DomainA. However when I attempt to add a user from DomainB as a new Business Portal user it fails. The message is "User cannot be added because it is an invalid domain user." SharePoint allowed me to provide a domain user and password from each domain in order to query both ways. Does the Business Portal provide this functionality in any way? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks, Brian

    Hello Brian,

Officially, the only supported environment we recommend for being able to add users from a secondary domain into Business portal, whether it be for Dynamics GP 10.0, 2010, or 2013, is to have a full, two-way trust setup between the two domains. This is what we've seen work the best and what we would support.

Also, on the server under Administrative Tools > Component Services, expand Component Services > Computers > My Computer and click on COM+ Applications.

In COM+ Applications, find the Microsoft Business Framework Identity component and verify it is started/running, and also look at the account that is running this component.

This account is what Business Portal uses to query the domain that Business Portal is installed onto as well as the secondary domain that you're looking to be able to add users from, into Business Portal. To be able to do this, along with the Full two-way trust, this user account must have permissions to completely query all of the groups and users from both domain's active directory, or else you may not see the users from the 2nd domain when you attempt to add them into Business Portal.

    Thank you,

    Thanks for the replay Soma,

Unfortunately I already have the SharePoint side of things working fine.  It's the actual Business Portal piece that does not.  That link doesn't help with the Business Portal setup.

    Thanks,

    Brian

I got below answer about cross domain access for share point. Hope this helps for BP also.

DOMAIN_A.LOCAL* must trust *DOMAIN_B.LOCAL*, otherwise users from *DOMAIN_B.LOCAL* will receivie a credential prompt since their *DOMAIN_B.LOCAL* account is unknown within *DOMAIN_A.LOCAL*.

Given that *DOMAIN_B.LOCAL* is for kisok users, you probably do not want to trust this domain.
