Hi All;

I have a task where I need to send sms notification to our customers via entity.... I know that I will need a SMS gateway and API for this..

But my question is... is it possible to use a smartphone instead?

Any advise will be appreciated thank you!

By the way we use CRM 2011 thanks!

You can try the following third party tool:

    www.powerobjects.com/.../powersms

    it uses callfire and twilio

You can also try an integration using twilio yourself

Zapier is another third party tool zapier.com/.../sms

I appreciated your response to my post. But, let me clarify my post. My boss wants to utilize our local network carriers (Globe, Sun and Smart) via smartphone (android phone). Since its a lot cheaper compared to SMS gateways such as twillio and callfire... You see our local network carriers have promos which you can send unlimited text messages for as low as 1 USD or .50 cents....  per day. We want to take advantage of those promos for our business since we send messages to our clients almost 300 or more messages pers day..

Now having that in mind. Is it possible to do it in CRM... lets say when I close a case. It will trigger a workflow that will send a text message. lets say an API or JS will communicate to a smartphone connected to our application server to send a text message acting as a SMS gateway...

You can build your own console application and find an api for ur sms service provider to integrate, hint here

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg695790(v=crm.7).aspx

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg695803(v=crm.7).aspx

Or you can follow this third party https://www.clickatell.com/

    USD100 for 10,000 SMS/month (one way)

USD 105 for 10,000 SMS/month (two way) +$28 one time fee. In this plan you can display ur own mobile no.

There are couple of things you need to remember when you want to use your mobile carrier vendor. Most of the times, the free messages you get to use is under Fair usage policy, meaning you may not use these unlimited messages for your business bulk messages. Also, If you send a message with these, the other receiver will get a message with the mobile number, do you think it is safe to disclose your mobile number to all your customers?

Finally, if you are okay with these 2 concerns, you have to check your vendor if there is any service exposed from their system which you can use to automatically send a message.

Email 2 SMS is possible. It depends on your local SMS Provider. They could support this by changing for example the sender to be emailaddress@websms.com , the email is send to them and they send an SMS where the body is the body of the email.

I have tried it and it works , i  also used an alphanumeric name for the company instead to display the telephone number. PowerSMS won't offer this functionality. So it works , you just have to get in touch with a local service that will provide this forwarding based on emails.
