AD user groups in Dynamics Nav 2015

We have to support an international company with a lot of users.

So a lot of users coming and going.

Is it possible to setup Nav that when the user is added to group in Active Directory he/she can have the correct access to the correct company?

I found Windows Group as a parameter in the user settings:

- I created a group on AD

- I created that user in Nav with the parameter group en permission SUPER

- I created and added a new user to the group

But when I tried to login with that user everything on Terminal Server was working except Nav.

Nav was still asking for a user!

Does someone have the answer? Or is there a work around.

Create a new user in NAV and set the "License Type" of the user to "Windows Group". This will make the users of that group inherit the permissions of the group.

Make sure you set the NAV permissions to the new user (group) as well.

But I don't want to create each user individually in Nav.

The logical setup within an AD is adding users to groups and giving the correct permissions to a group.  It seems strange that within Nav you would have to rebuild the AD structure (users and groups)?

It would still mean that 2 suppliers need to be involved to add a user.

I have a customer working with Nav 5.0 and on that version it works without having to create an individual user?

You just have to create a user with the license type = Windows Group and have the clients log in using Windows Authentication.

I when you say that the system still asks for a user you mean there is a window prompt to input the credentials, that has to do with the credential type defined in the client. You can change that to "Windows". Doing this will make the users within the AD Group able to log in without having to input any credentials and without having to create each user individually in NAV.

    Hi Sandra,

I am afraid there is no other way.

You need to create a user of the type "Windows Group", which you give the necessary NAV permission sets.

You need to create users of the type "Full User" for each windows user login that needs to access NAV. You don't need to assign permission sets to these.

    Good luck,

    Steven
