received not invoiced items

Hi I'm wondering how the posting of received but not invoiced items work in BC. Per my understanding the expected cost will be posted to the inventory account interim defined under the inventory posting setup page. BC will post the expected cost to this account based on the location and the inventory posting group of that item.

However, after I posted receipt of a purchase order of an item, I don't see any posting to that account. The value entry is correctly  showing the expected cost. Could you share your thoughts on how to find the expected cost posting for such transaction?

Also, the post expected cost to gl is set to No.

Thanks
I have the same question (0)

You are correct in your description of how it works.

Also, the post expected cost to gl is set to No.
And that's the reason the system is not creating any entries in the G/L, because you have the Expected Cost Posting to G/L turned off in the Inventory Setup Page. If you turn it on, you will see the G/L Entries.

if I turned on the flag, BC will post entries both to the inventory subledger entries and entries to GL, is it possible to only post to the subledger?

BC already posts the entry to the inventory subledger, regardless if you have Expected Cost Posting to G/L turned on or off.

    To summarize what happens:

If Expected Cost Posting to G/L is off - when you post the receipt, the expected cost is posted to the inventory subledger and nothing is posted to the GL. When you post the invoice, the system reversed the expected cost in the inventory subledger and posts the actual cost in both the inventory subledger and in the GL.

If you turn on Expected Cost Posting to G/L, when you post the receipt, the expected cost is posted to both the inventory subledger and to the GL. When you post the invoice, the system reversed the expected cost in both the inventory subledger and in the GL and posts in both the actual cost.

Yeah, your last sentence tells it all :) You haven't activated the "Expected cost posting to G/L" so it is only shown in Values entries for informational purposes.

Thanks all for your valuable input.

Valentin, my understanding agree with your confirmation that without the feature "Expected Cost Posting to G/L" activated, the system will only post the expected cost to the inventory subledger.

My question is, with the flag set to NO, what is the name of the account in standard BC under inventory posting setup does it post to when only receiving? Below are all the account types.

In the Inventory Posting Setup Page in your screenshot, all the accounts are GL accounts. They are not inventory subledger related, as the inventory subledger doesn't have any accounts. It simply has the item ledger entries and value entries pages. If you have Expected Cost Posting to G/L turned off, the system doesn't post to any of those accounts in your screenshot when receiving. It will simply create an entry in the item ledger entry and value entry with the expected cost. However, when the invoice is posted, then it will post under the Inventory Account in your screenshot.

If you have Expected Cost Posting to G/L turned on, when receiving the system would post to the G/L. It would debit the Inventory (Interim) account from the Inventory Posting Setup Page in your screenshot. The Credit would be posted against the Inventory Accrual Account (Interim) in the General Posting Setup Page. When the invoice is posted, it reverses the entry to the Inventory (Interim) and to the Inventory Accrual Account (Interim) accounts posted during the receipt, and posts a regular invoice entry.
