Dynamics CRM App for Outlook startup time

Hello;

In my testing of the new Dynamics CRM App for Outlook (currently use the full Outlook app), I'm seeing very slow response when I click to open the "app" within Outlook 2016. It typically takes about 15 seconds to authenticate/connect to org/download metadata . This doesn't improve much even if I immediately go to another email message to track it.

Is this performance similar to what you see? This isn't going to be popular with our users when we convert them over from the full CRM client within Outlook over to the new app.

Any ideas on how to improve this performance? Are you seeing similar performance with your CRM online organization?

Thanks,

Alan Smith

    Hi,

There is always an 'authenticating' step when you open the app - in my experience this is much longer the first time - then subsequent opens it is quicker but not immediate.

This is because everytime the app opens it has to open the app web pages - just the same as if you were to open a new window in Dynamics.

If you feel that way inclided - you could up vote the idea here -  ideas.dynamics.com/.../ID0002015

The more people vote, the more notice that the product team will take!

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the response, Scott. What performance do you (or others) commonly see when opening up the app? Mine is ~15 seconds or so, maybe just a couple of seconds quicker the second time - like 11-12 seconds. Seems like an eternity - and will discourage folks from tracking messages.

Our org is on D365 V9.0. All users find it frustrating to use the App for Outlook.

Authentication is slow. Set Regarding search experience is janky and slow - constantly 'loading'.

    Eagerly awaiting an improvement here.

App load times are fine for us on 9.02 but I have to echo the frustrations about set regarding. It it unusable. this is because it is searching just about every freaking entity! A MSFT engineer tried to tell me that was because other customers wanted that. I had to chuckle. Really? You have heard customers say they want to set regarding to "Forum Access Permissions" and "Portal Settings" ? Riiiight.

I am looking for a way to trim the list of entities searched when setting regarding as well as define the order the entities appear so I can put them in a usable order for us and our customers (usually Account, Contact, Case and Opportunity for starters). The search on set regarding works fine if you specify the entity. The problem is  the app crashed when scrolling across the huge list so it is nearly impossible to specify Case or Opp.

Has anyone found a way to modify or customize this aspect? I was hopeful that the "Outlook App" in Customizations->Apps would be the ticket but it seems like it is totally unrelated to the actual Outlook App.

Hi guys.  I also logged a case with  Microsoft when our Outlook App crashed whenever I was trying to Set Regarding on an appointment.  I showed a tech and he agreed that it was crashing, took screenshots, and agreed to escalate the issue.  Again, this was based on the app searching every entity in CRM when using Set Regarding.  After escalating to a higher power, he came back and told me that this was by design.  When I asked why would the dev team design something to crash, he tried to tell me it wasn't crashing!

This issue is still current with 9.0.2 (except it now doesn't say "This app has crashed")

Same here. Just not feasible to use and it's baffling to me that MS can't nail this down.

I'll echo this. Unusable as it is now. Set regarding search just takes too long and I've not been able to restrict the entities included. There are settings within each entity specific to the Outlook app but deselecting "Reading pane in Dynamics 365 for Outlook" doesn't remove those records from being searched.

I am also facing the same issue. Did the issue got resolved for you?
