Assembly Kits

I am desperately trying to get my head around assembly kits. 
 
For us these are items made up from multiple products we sell individually (we don't manufacture)
 
We have customers who pay a fixed price for a /kit/ and other customers pay based on the individual component prices.  
 
We also need to be able to compile a list of components for picking.
 
So my questions are
- how can we set up Business Central so that when entering assembly kits on order, the packing list compiles a list of total items, not lists the same item multiple times
- how can we set up assembly kits so that when we explode the BOM it doesn't recalculate based on the individual item pricing?
 
I hope I am making sense and someone can assist.

    When you run "Explode BOM", you are negating the Assembly Management capability of BC. If you want to get to your goal of kit pricing and picking you will need to use the Assembly Management features or write a customization to the Sales Order.
     
    Your Items are set with an Assembly Policy of "Assemble to Stock", which will work fine for this process.  I know this because you have the ability to explode them, rather than the system creating an Assembly Order in the background.  This means the system wants to create a standalone Assembly Order to process putting your components together into the kit.
     
    By Exploding the BOM you are bypassing the Assembly Order and processing the kit on the Sales Order, as if you were selling the BOM Items individually, which is why the system is pulling the pricing from the unique Items and not your kit pricing.
     
    When you have an Assembly Order (or multiple when selling multiple kits), the system can group the demand onto the Pick using the Pick Worksheet.  You still have an option of creating the Pick for a single Assembly Order, but you can also allow the system to create a single Pick for the group of orders created.
     
    If your kit assembly process happens at time of shipping, I would encourage you to look into Assemble-to-Order policy for the kit.  This will create the Assembly Order in the background for the specific quantity of the Sales Line.  It would be worth testing in a Sandbox environment.

    Thank you to both Yun Zhu & Ben Baxter for your time.
     
    Unfortunately it doesn't quite answer my questions.
     
    One order may have multiple kits on which may only have minor changes. For example:
     
     
      Kit A Kit B
    Product 1 4 4
    Product 2 2 1
    Product 3 1  
    Product 4   2
     
    So the full order would be
     
    1 x Kit A
    1 x Kit B
    Product 1 x8
    Product 2 x 3
    Product 3 x 1
    Product 4 x 2
     
    Atm we have to explode the BOMs to get the picking lists - which then lists the products in Kit order, i.e. Product 1 & 2 are listed twice instead of once with the quantity required.
     
    Our kits have set prices which are not equal to the sum of sales prices of the individual products. Yet when we explode the BOM, the price reverts back to the sum of sales prices of all products.
     
    I hope this explains our problem a bit more.

    You would likely use an Assembly Policy of Assemble-to-Order, which creates the Assembly Order as soon as the Quantity field is validated on the Sales Order.  Your Pick would be for the components of the Assembly Order, not the kit itself.
     
    If you make the kit ahead of time, then you use Assemble-to-Stock as the Assembly Policy.  Then your Sales Order would have you Pick the kit out of your stock inventory.
