The small company that I work for does not have direct sales people, but independent sales representatives that do not have access to CRM.  How can we associate an lead/opportunity/quote/sale to that independent rep?  Thank you.

    RE: Independent Sales Agents

You could always add a custom field/lookup/optionset on those entities such as "sales person" or "outside sales rep" and populate that.  Make sure you have the mappings set for lead/opportunity/quote/sale correctly so that it will flow through the process.  You could also create a seperate entity for this.  Consideration on how you do reporting against this data would need to be made.  Do you do reporting where you want sales person for users and outside users as well.

Also if this is an online instance of 2013 you could always provide them with the lowest level of licensing, which is a little cheaper.

The "Owner" of a record doesn't necessarily have to be the principal for it.  Some companies in your position use Contacts, or custom entities, to identify such representatives.  Then, they establish a new relationship between this entity and those sales records for the "role".  Then, the Owner field--as a security mechanism--is generally assigned to a "Team" record that represents external representatives.  If access to the data is required, often a portal solution is used, such as ADXStudio's Portal framework, which can provide authenticated access for non-User entities.

    Hi Patrick,

You can have custom field to store the independent rep or you can use connection entity to store the relationship between lead/opp/quote/sale to the independent rep

You can either create new custom entity, so-called independent rep or you can use contact to store with custom field to know its type to distinct the reols, for example contact type: independent rep.

Then you can use the field to identify who is the independent rep handles this lead/opp.

This is what usually we have is we call it Partner.

If your partner cannot login to CRM, and you need them to check the records from CRM, you can build a Partner Portal to let them to check.

You can build by your own portal :

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg695813.aspx

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg695814.aspx

Or yes, you can refer to a ready-made or you can customize more the Portal, ADX Studio Portal as framework as per David's suggestion.

    www.adxstudio.com/.../adxstudio-portals

    Thanks.
