What is causing the error? The chart could not be rendered for the selected filter criteria.

I am having a big problem with a chart in Dynamics CRM.  I have a personal view created that pulls back Goals where the Goal Owner is on a specific team. I am able to view the records from this personal view just fine and it is populated with all the relevant records.  I am utilizing a System Chart to display this view on a personal dashboard. For some reason, on all the personal dashboards that I have this chart on, it just shows the following error message:  "The chart could not be rendered for the selected filter criteria."

I don't understand why I am getting this error as I am able to see all the records when I click the "View the records that are Used to Generate this Chart" button.  Also, I have the System Admin role.

I tried doing some research on the issue but couldn't find much. Can someone please point me in the right direction to getting this fixed?

Thanks,

    Hi,

The cause of the error message is :

If any grid is not bound to a Fetch based query then Charting engine detects it and throws the right error message as "The Chart could not be rendered for the selected filter criteria."

    Please follow the below Workaround:

The idea is to put a subgrid on the account form that could display the opportunity chart.

    1.     Go to Settings – Customization – Customizations – Customize the System

    2.     In the left side Expand Entities and then expand Accounts

    3.     Select  forms – open the main form (form type like main)

    4.     In the form body select Marketing Information section

    5.     On the Ribbon select Insert tab – then Subgrid

    6.     In this example please write like:

    a.     Name:

    i.    Name: chart

    ii.    Label: chart

    b.    Data source:

       i.    Records: all record types

      ii.    Entity: Opportunities

iii.    Default View: My open opportunities

    c.     Additional Options:

     i.    View selector: show all views and specify a default chart

    d.    select the option “show chart only”

    e.     Go to Formatting tab – select two columns – number of rows put 10

    7.     Do OK

    8.     Save and close

    9.     Publish all customizations

    10.  Close the window when it publishes

    11.  Do F5 in your Internet Explorer

    12.  Go to accounts – marketing section

    13.  You’ll be able to see the chart, change the view and change the system charts too

This doesn't seem to work anymore. Not sure why. I was pretty sure it was working after I tried it the first time.

in the event that anyone else runs across this issue, I had a client using CRM 2013 that had pretty much the exact same problem. His issue was related to the filter criteria he had chosen. Initially, his criteria was:

    Show goals

    .....where goal owner

    ..........is on a team

    ...............that is a specific team

    He changed the criteria to

    Show goals

    .....where goal owner

..........is in a specific business unit

and that corrected his issue. His charts are now showing. Going down three levels in the criteria seemed to contribute to the problem.
