Raw Material Batch Serial Continuation to Finished Goods

Helping my client implement production in AX 2012 Feature Pack.  My client was told in the past that it is standard functionality of AX production module that a finished good created from a raw material with a specific batch and serial number could inherit the batch and serial number from the raw material.

I am not finding evidence of this process as standard functionality.   Can anyone clarify if it is standard functionality?  If so what are the setups required for that to happen.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I don't think so this can be standard functionality. I had come across similar requirements in the past but could not find out any standard solution to this requirement...

As a concept, you might use multiple raw materials having different serial & batch numbers in single production order and hence finished goods can not inherit the batch & serial number from the raw material.

Ideally, you should enter the batch & serial number (could be of raw material batch nos.) manually in the system.

Thank you Vishal.  In this instance there is only one raw material on every BOM (large coiled roll of material to make finished good).  The client wanted a mechanism where the batch/serial of the coil could follow through to the finished good items it produced.  Sounds as though this is not standard functionality to do so.  I appreciate your input.

    True Lynn..

We exactly had similar requirements in two of our clients, where they were using large coil to make the finished goods and client wanted to track the Batch Nos. through out product life cycle as it is mandatory in their business. Automation requirement was basically to avoid their mistakes and reduce the data entry time.

However we could not find any solution at that point in time and we found customization to be bit challenging due to various scenarios and hence we convinced client to punch the batch no. manually.

In case if you find any solution or go with some customization, keep us posted on the same.

Yes we as well are trying to reduce data entry time.  We are planning a customization presently but I wanted to check around to ensure that was the proper avenue in case there was some other functionality I was not aware of.

    Lynn,

You can inherit batch attributes, so if you wanted to try creating a batch attribute called "origin batch" or something, you might be able to keep that all the way through...
