Automatic location selection for an item in PO AX 4.0

Hi, guys.

I am wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to specify a location for an item in AX 4.0 so that when you create e.g. a purchase order for that item, the default location is automatically selected on the purchase line? A customer is asking, and I have no idea... Maybe a way to do so in 2009 or 2012 would help as well. I would appreciate any assistance.

    Create a default pick/issue/receive warehouse location for warehouse you desire.

    Thank you, Mark, but this is not exactly what was needed. Maybe I wasn't clear enough, but I wrote that a default location should be specified on items, not warehouses (imagine different items are desired at different locations at the same warehouse).

    Shortly, the way to do so is Inventory Management/Items form:

    - Quantity tab: To specify default warehouse for purchase, sales and inventory

    - Setup button/Warehouse items/Locations tab: To specify default locations for picking, receipt and issue.

    One need to remember to assign a correct dimension group (with warehouses and locations enabled) to that item.

    The approach we used was to assign a customer or vendor to a warehouse. POs, SOs inherit the warehouse and the lines then can choose the default pick/ issue/ receipt location for that warehouse. Allows default location from multi warehouses. There is a blank default warehouse record for items that is used for planning, but otherwise, any location requires a warehouse association even if only 1 warehouse.
