Business Central Chart Visualisations - Timeline of Events

Hi all,

I am looking for suggestions with regards to creating visualisatons in Business Central, if possible.
I have the below dataset in a table in Business Central;

Record ID Date Event
123456 01/01/2024 Create
123456 02/01/2024 Update - Name
123456 03/01/2024 Upate - Age
123456 04/01/2024 Deleted

I would like to show the above data in a timeline manner, i.e. in a way that the user can see the changes overtime that the record went through.
(Below timeline is just an example to render the idea of what we're looking for - we're open to options).
We have tried to look into the available charts that can be created via AL but seems like none of them can be used to render the idea - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/application/system-application/enum/system.visualization.business-chart-type

Any ideas how this can be achieved?

    Hello,

You can Customize the Report as per your Requirement OR use the Power BI Report Tool for the same.

Hi, try Power BI reports, for example, the standard can be done like this.

In addition, RDLC should also be able to do this, as long as the number of points is fixed and does not exceed the pre-set maximum value. You can use the following conditions to set whether lines and points are displayed.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

Good morning, afternoon, or evening :) depending on your location!

Creating a timeline visualization in Business Central for tracking changes over time can be challenging with the standard chart types available via AL. However, here are some suggestions to achieve your goal:

    1. Custom Chart Development: You can use the Business Chart Control Add-In to create a custom chart. This involves defining a setup table, setup page, management codeunit, and chart page. The chart can be tailored to display events in a timeline format. You can find more details about this approach here.
    2. Power BI Integration: Export the dataset from Business Central and use Power BI to create a timeline visualization. Power BI offers advanced charting capabilities, including timeline charts, which can effectively display the progression of events.
    3. Third-Party Tools: Explore third-party visualization tools or add-ons that integrate with Business Central. These tools might offer pre-built timeline visualization features.
    4. Custom Page in AL: If you prefer to keep everything within Business Central, you can create a custom page using AL code to display the data in a timeline format. This would require development expertise to design the layout and logic.

    Hope this helps some!
