Sorry if this is an obvious question, but are you exporting the records first as xml? Then modifying the data and saving the xml file before importing?

If you save your xml file as a different file type (e.g. CSV) before importing, it will not map automatically.

Would you please clarify the file types you are using to export the original data and import the modified data.

    OK,

If you are exporting as xml and saving the edited file as xml then is should work. However, it will not automatically map if you add or remove any columns.

People often add a lookup column while editing the file and forget to remove it. That prevents automatic mapping.

Also, if you save the xml file as xlsx, then save it back to xml it will fail. It must stay as xml the whole time.

I hope this helps. Please let me know how you go.

To update records with an import you must export them first and tick the reimport checkbox.

This creates an excel files with Guids in hidden fields.

You cannot import a standard excel file and update records, it will instead find duplicates

In CRM 2011 there will be a re import option to checking, but in CRM 2015 by default it will come with guids, i have tried for account and it happens .but when i tried for custom entity it is not mapping automatically.

I am trying to re import the custom entity name called "Territory", already crm 2016 having  system entity with same name called "Territory" .now two territory entities are in my solution.

i guess while re importing system is not able to map with exact entity because of duplicate entity names.

    please correct me

The same is happening with Contact entity in CRM 2016 Online.

First of all, when i am exporting Contacts, it is downloading and saving in .xlsx by default, does not give option to save in .xml format. Renaming corrupts the file. And while importing (in .xlsx) does not map the first 3 GUID fields.

Sarababu, it is never a good idea to have two entities with the same name. I strongly suggest you change one of them if you have not done so already.

Also, forget what I said about keeping the file in xml format - that is not relevant to CRM 2016.

So did anyone figure out how to do this?  I am using CRM 2016.  I get no option to export to XML.  The .xlsx export does include the hidden columns for the record GUID, modified date and checksum.  However, after making changes and on importing, only the unique ID column (of the three hidden columns) can be mapped.  Even when it is mapped, the import fails due to duplicate unique IDs.
