Second Lot Number not appearing on Picking Ticket

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

When a sales order is filled from two lot numbers the Picking Ticket only prints the first lot number with quantity from that lot. The Packing Slip prints both lot numbers.

Example:

A customer orders a Kit ZZ that contains 50 of Sales Inventory item X.  There are two lot numbers for item X: 36 in Lot #2 and 14 in Lot #3

Sales Order is created for 1 ZZ that contains 50 of kit X.

Picking Ticket prints Lot #2 with Pick Quantity of 36.

Packing Slip shows Lot #2 and Lot #3.

Background: We are running GP2013.  Customers order by kit.  Some kits have one inventory item with different quantities (as the example).  We manufacturer the goods we put in lot numbers.  We track inventory items by Lot Number.

This problem was noticed by customer complaint after we were upgraded to GP 2013 in December 2014 or January of 2015.  It could have been on the previous version, but written off to personnel error.

There is a manual work around (Sales calls Shipping to alert them), but we need to get away from these.

If this has been answered already please direct me to it as I could not find it.

Thanks,

Scott

RE: Second Lot Number not appearing on Picking Ticket

Tim and Leslie, Thank you for your time and effort on this!

The answer is "Our Picking Ticket was modified and does not work as desired."

Solution: Fix old or create new Picking Ticket .

In the interim, multiple lot numbers are handled with the sorting of the lot numbers.

    How?

When printing the user checks the Picking Ticket, checks the Bin Sequenced and checks the Sort Kit Components.  This prints an "ugly" version of the Picking ticket with all of the lots listed (we don't let our customers see the picking ticket!).

    Sincerely,

    Scott

RE: Second Lot Number not appearing on Picking Ticket

    Hi Scott,

In order to compare the two in RW at the same time involves a bit of RW trickery. You can't have them open at the same time, but they can both be there for you to look at. First, use Customization Maintenance to create a package file of your modified report. After that, remove the modified report from the Reports list in RW and insert the original report, but do not make any modifications to it. Now, go back to GP and create a package file of the 'new' modified report (which is a copy of the original report). At this point, use Customization Maintenance to import your modified report again. OK, open the unmodified package file in a text editor. At the top of the file, you need to change the name of the report - I usually just add 'copy' to the end of the name so that they list next to each other. You will need to change it in two places on that top line. Mine looks like this:

    <Component Name="POP Purchase Order Blank Form-copy" ProductId="0" Object="Report" >

Report "POP Purchase Order Blank Form-copy"

Use Customization Maintenance to import your 'copy' package file. What you'll end up with is this new copy report in your Modified reports list. You won't be able to print this report, it's just there so you can look at it.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Leslie,

I am unable to attach the screenshot.

I will forward a screenshot to the email listed on your profile.

    Thanks again for your assistance,

RE: Second Lot Number not appearing on Picking Ticket

    Leslie,

I would like to compare the two documents; however, I am not familiar with Report Writer.  Excuse the basic question: How can I look at the default report and not the modified report?

I can see the modified report as shown in this screen-print:

The sorting is such that the Body (B) prints, Header 2 (H2), and then Header 1 (H1).  I assume H3 would print if we used Picking Instructions.

    Thanks!

    Scott,

Problems like this often involve sections on the report. This report has several sections that may have been altered when the report was modified. I would compare the original layout with the modified layout and see if the lot number exists in the same section.

RE: Second Lot Number not appearing on Picking Ticket

    Tim,

    This is very helpful!

I was able to confirm in our test environment that the default report prints the lot numbers.  Therefore this appears to be a report problem.

What are your thoughts on resolving this issue?

Should we "upgrade Modified Forms and Reports" as you suggested earlier?

    Thanks,

    Scott

RE: Second Lot Number not appearing on Picking Ticket

First, figure out whether you use it or not:

Microsoft Dynamics GP >> Tools >> Setup >>System >> User Security

    You'll need the system password.

Enter your user id.  Select the company from the drop down.

Click on Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports ID: (the heading)

    Product ID: Dynamics GP

    Type: Reports

    Series: Sales

Click the + beside Sales in the lower window

Find the SOP Blank Picking Ticket and click the +

See if the original or modified is selected.

You could revert to the original and test.

Upgrading Forms and Reports is done in GP Utilities.

You might want to export the current modified report and then try to correct it.

I'm not sure what your skill level is.

    Sorry.

RE: Second Lot Number not appearing on Picking Ticket

    Tim,

    Thanks for the response!

Yes, both Picking Ticket and Packing Slip are custom reports (see below on where I went to find this).

If the reports are there does that mean we are using them?  Or should I go elsewhere to see if the "upgrade" was done?

Thanks again for your help and continued patience!

    Scott

    -------------------

I used the following steps to find the if the reports were customized:

    Microsoft Dynamics GP>>Tools>>Customize>>Report Writer

        Selected Product: Microsoft Dynamics GP

Used the drop down to bring up a list of modified reports, where I can see both listed.

Has the Picking Ticket been modified with Report Writer?

If Yes, did you remember to upgrade Modified Forms and Reports?
