Does anyone know how we can send a customer an Advanced shipment notice from AX?

Well there are multiple ways to accomplish this. You can auto send them a confirmation which can include shipping dates. You can custom build a report and automate these to go to customers... etc etc
Do you know if this will work with direct shipments?
I need to send ASN's to our customer once our vendor sends us the shipment confirmation and not sure how to do this in AX.
Any help is appreciated.

Well, direct shipments have both a PO from the vendor and an SO to the customer so posting the confirmation on the SO on the date you get the shipment confirmation from the vendor might work depending on your process.

You probably already had figured it out by now... but in case you haven't here's some pointers. ASNs generally contain information regarding shipping details and carton level details. Often a serialized label is affixed to the carton or pallet to indicate the corresponding ASN so the receiver doesnt have to open boxes and manually count inventory and enter it into their system of record.
Trading partner requirements for the ASN can vary quite a bit. Label requirements can also vary from partner to partner. Give me a call if I can help answer any questions specific to your current process and trading partner.
